A kiteboarder launches into the San Francisco Bay from the shore of Alameda Beach November 11, 2007 despite warnings of oil contamination. The beach, across the bay from San Francisco, Calif. was officially closed in response to 58,000 gallons of bunker fuel spilled when the container ship Cosco Busan collided with the base of a Bay Bridge tower. Contamination from the spill fouled at least 20 beaches in the area and soiled hundreds of water birds.
