A Buddhist monk smokes a cigarette in Bangkok. A Thai Government anti-smoking campaign targeted monks in 2003 as a result of a report identifying smoking as the leading cause of death among monks in Thailand. There is no religious edict banning monks from smoking, and about 40 percent of Thailand's 300,000 monks are smokers.
